Online Instructor-Led Courses – MySkillSource offers two types of online instructor-led courses. Each is led by a
subject-matter expert, who teaches the course in a message board
"classroom". Students read the messages, do the assignments or lessons,
and post questions to the instructor in the message board. In order to
take an online instructor-led course, you have to first register for the
course in the Course Catalog.

Online
Instructor-Led Classes – An MySkillSource online instructor-led class, like a regular college class, has an
instructor, students, a course outline, and often a textbook. The classes
generally run 4 to 8 weeks. These classes even have classrooms – although
the rooms are virtual ones that exist only in cyberspace. The
communication between the instructor and student takes place through a
threaded message board.

Online
Instructor-Led Workshops
– MySkillSource Workshops are one or two week, online instructor-led classes that teach
an applied skill in five, step-by-step lessons. Generally, workshops don't
require a textbook.
MySkillSource Workshop lessons appear each day on the MySkillSource
Workshop home page, which exists outside the MySkillSource workshop message board "classroom." Students read the daily lesson, then
post assignments and questions related to the daily lesson in the
classroom message board for the instructor to answer and other students to
comment on.

Lessons – (Same for
online instructor-led and self-study) Lessons are made up of related
topics. Courses are made up of groups of lessons in which students learn
various concepts, tasks and skills. Both online instructor-led and
self-study courses (except Seminars) contain lessons.

Topics – (Same for
online instructor-led and self-study) A topic is a portion of a lesson or
course that covers related material. Groups of topics that are related to
a particular concept or task make up a lesson. Both online instructor-led
and self-study courses contain topics.

Self-Study
Courses
– MySkillSource offers four types of self-study courses. Each provides a unique learning
experience that you can take on your own time, at your own pace. Each
self-study course requires the Shockwave plug-in, so
be sure you have downloaded and installed the plug-in before starting a
self-study course. Click on Plug-in Setup in the left navigation bar to
download the plug-in.

Self-Study
QuickSkill
– QuickSkill self-study
courses give you hands-on, interactive training as if you were actually in
the real desktop application. At various times throughout the learning
experience, you'll be asked to perform hands-on tasks. Because you are
working in a simulated environment, the simulations will act like the
actual software application with one important exception: if you make a
mistake, you'll be informed that you've made an error and given the option
of trying again or letting the task be performed for you.

Tutorials – Each
lesson in a QuickSkill self-study course is broken down into tutorials.
These tutorials give you hands-on, interactive training as if you were in
the real desktop application. You’ll be introduced to concepts and
procedures, and asked to perform certain tasks to demonstrate your
understanding of the material.

Self-Study
TechExpert
– TechExpert self-study
courses provide a mix of conceptual and procedural learning through online
reading and interactivity (quizzes, activities, etc.), designed to keep
the student actively engaged in the learning process. The lessons begin
with the "big picture" by introducing a concept through background
information. The details and procedures are then presented in small,
easy-to-understand segments. Some TechExpert courses contain staged files,
utilities, and other course tools that can be downloaded to assist the
student in the learning experience.

Self-Study
Seminars – Self-study seminars are
a combination of audio and text presentations, but the majority of the
content in each seminar is supplied via audio. Text is displayed as the
audio is played. Each seminar is approximately 10 to 15 minutes in length.
The Executive Series provides industry professionals with a
management-oriented overview of the latest in computing and non-computing
technologies. Each seminar in the Executive Series will help you
understand the "big picture" while not missing out on important details.
The Technical Series is intended for those whose day-to-day job activities
require a technical background.

Self-study Business
& Management Skills –
Self-study Business courses provide a well-structured approach to concepts
through online reading and interactivity.
MySkillSource Business and Management Skills features our Harvard Business School
Publishing and QuicKnowledge online learning series. Courses provide check
quizzes that help to summarize what has been covered during the education
process and to check comprehension. You’ll find that lessons provide
helpful information that you can put to use immediately in your own office
environment.
Self-study
Innovative & Learning Method –
This learning experience puts you in control by providing the option to
select the information you need, and to skip what you do not need. The
content is organized based on how a job or task should be performed.
Interactive media is used to effectively and efficiently support the
subject at hand. Optional activities are provided in varying degrees of
complexity to provide practice and feedback on the presented material.
